For the Days When Healing Feels Heavy

There are days when I feel like I’m doing okay.

I can smile. I can laugh. I can go about my day without feeling like I’m carrying the weight of everything that has happened.

And then there are days when healing feels heavy.

The kind of days when getting out of bed takes a little more effort. When something small brings back a memory you weren’t prepared for. When you find yourself thinking about the life you imagined, the prayers you prayed, and the things you wish had turned out differently.

On those days, I’ve had to remind myself of something:

Healing doesn’t always feel like healing.

Sometimes healing looks like crying.

Sometimes it looks like resting.

Sometimes it looks like saying, “God, I don’t have the words today.”

Sometimes it looks like canceling plans, putting your phone on Do Not Disturb, wrapping yourself in a blanket, and giving yourself permission to simply exist.

And that is okay.

You Don't Have to Rush This

I think sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to get better because we believe enough time has passed.

We wonder why something still hurts.

We question why we're still emotional.

We look around and see everyone else continuing with life and quietly wonder why we're having such a hard time doing the same.

But grief doesn't follow a calendar.

There isn't a date when you're suddenly supposed to stop missing what you lost.

There isn't a deadline for becoming yourself again.

And there certainly isn't anything wrong with needing more time.

You are allowed to heal at the pace your heart needs.

God Is Still Here

My faith has been one of the things I've held onto during the hardest parts of my journey.

But I also want to be honest.

There have been moments when trusting God wasn't easy.

There were questions.

There was anger.

There were tears.

There were prayers that sounded more like, “God, why?” than anything else.

And sometimes there was silence because I simply didn't know what to say.

I've learned that God doesn't require a perfectly worded prayer before He meets us.

Sometimes all we have to bring Him is our broken heart.

And even there, He stays.

In the confusion.

In the disappointment.

In the moments when everyone else thinks you're okay but you know you're barely holding yourself together.

He is there.

Give Yourself Grace Today

If today is one of those heavy days, beautiful, you don't have to turn it into a productive one.

You don't have to find the lesson today.

You don't have to force gratitude.

You don't have to convince yourself that everything happens for a reason.

You can simply acknowledge:

This hurts today.

And then give yourself the same compassion you would give someone you love.

Drink some water.

Take the nap.

Go for a quiet walk.

Write in your journal.

Pray.

Cry.

Sit in silence.

Do whatever helps you make a little room for yourself today.

Tomorrow may feel different.

And if it doesn't, we'll give tomorrow grace too.

You're Still Healing 🤍

Please don't mistake a difficult day for a lack of progress.

One hard moment doesn't erase all the healing you've already done.

One trigger doesn't take you back to the beginning.

One day of crying doesn't mean you've lost your strength.

You're still moving forward—even when the movement is so small that you can't see it yet.

Healing can be slow.

It can be messy.

It can be beautiful and painful at the same time.

But little by little, you are learning how to carry your story differently.

So for the days when healing feels heavy, remember:

You don't have to carry everything at once.

Set some of it down.

Rest.

Breathe.

Let God hold what feels too heavy for you today.

There is no deadline waiting for you on the other side of this.

Take your time, beautiful.

You're still healing. You're still loved. And you're still becoming. 🤍

With love,Alisha
