When the Pain Comes in Waves
Updated: Aug 30
There are days when you wake up and realize you’re doing okay.

You laugh without forcing it. You make it through the day without that heaviness sitting on your chest. Maybe you even catch yourself thinking, I’m finally starting to feel like myself again.
And then, without warning, the grief comes back.
It could be a date on the calendar. A song. A picture. A conversation. Seeing someone else experience the very thing you prayed so hard for.
Suddenly, you’re right back in that place.
And I want you to know something:
That does not mean you’re going backward.
Grief has never been a straight line.
Healing doesn’t mean you’ll never feel the pain again. Sometimes healing simply means learning how to carry what happened without allowing it to consume every part of you.
I’ve learned that I can have a beautiful day and still miss what I lost.
I can be grateful for what God has given me and still have questions about what He allowed.
I can have faith and still cry.
Both can exist.
So when another wave comes, don't pressure yourself to immediately swim out of it.
Feel it.
Cry if you need to.
Pray if you can.
Be quiet if you don't have the words.
And when you're ready, remind yourself that you've survived every wave that came before this one.
You will make it through this one too.
God is still with you here—in the peaceful days and in the ones that hurt.
You aren't starting over, beautiful. You're simply continuing to heal. 🤍
With love,
Alisha
